Can I study in New Zealand?

June 14, 2008

Everyone who comes to study in New Zealand from overseas must meet certain rules and requirements. If you are coming to New Zealand to study for more than 3 months, you will need a student visa permit. In general, if you wish to visit, work, study or reside in New Zealand you will need to obtain a visa before you depart, depending on your purpose for visiting New Zealand.

The New Zealand Immigration Service (NZIS) is the government agency responsible for establishing immigration policies. The NZIS website provides comprehensive information on visas that you may need to obtain, depending on the reason for your visit to New Zealand. You will not require a visa permit if you are from New Zealand or Australia

The main questions we find include:

-How long can students study?
-Can students work while they’re studying?
-Can someone change their permit if they want to study?
-Can a student’s permit be revoked?
-Do distance learning students need a Student Visa or Permit to sit exams in New Zealand?
-Can students study part-time on a Student Permit?
-How do we arrange a student exchange?
-What students need to do if they’re already here studying and their plans change?
